Pizza and Politics unpacks the election

Students and community members discussed questions about the recent presidential election between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris on Nov. 6 during the Michael O. Leavitt Center’s weekly Pizza and Politics.

Presenters Tydon Dayton and Kerri Jensen opened the discussion with an explanation of the various mental health resources Southern Utah University offers, citing that the election has caused stress for people.

Topics covered in the discussion included political violence, the importance of swing states, the stress of voting and the issues young people care about.

Then, they turned to the first audience question, “What is your main concern for this election?” Students shared worries that others may be rude and disrespectful based on the beliefs that they held.

Dayton and Jensen then spent time talking about Donald Trump and Kamala Harris’ positions. This included showcasing goals the candidates want to achieve if elected as president. The floor opened for students to share what they believed would happen if either candidate won the race.

One student added that they hoped Trump would bring more jobs and lower prices. Another shared that Harris would have secured marriage equality rights.

The next Pizza and Politics will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13, at noon in the Leavitt Center.
