Southern Utah University’s Graduate Fair brought recruiters from universities all over the country to the Sharwan Smith Student Center Ballroom on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Students had the opportunity to meet graduate school representatives and explore their options for post-grad education.
Each year, SUU’s Career Center organizes this fair in partnership with the Utah Association of Colleges and Employers to help students find a professional path that suits their career aspirations.
“Everything that we do is to help our T-Birds at the end of the day,” said Bobby Hodge, event and marketing coordinator for the Career Center at SUU. “We want all of our students to be exposed to as many programs as possible and give them the opportunity to choose a career they love.”
With 68 booths available, students were able to network and ask questions about program costs, requirements, application processes and more.
“I’ve learned so much in my four years at SUU, and I would love to keep learning and see how deep I can go in my education,” said Abbie Cochrane, senior at SUU.“I think the event was very useful and it’s good to see what the options are.”
Open to all, recruiters were ready to inform anyone who came to their stand. McGarren Flack, director of the Masters of Fine Art program at Utah Tech, offered a technique for students attending events like this.
“One thing that I have really learned over the long run is to do information interviews. If you are interested in a specific area, go and talk to people who are actually doing it and ask them what they recommend,” he said. “The more information you can collect, the more you’re gonna be able to make the right decision for your life.”
Reilley Pavard, majoring in exercise science at SUU, left the event with plenty of schooling options.
“There were like five or six schools that interested me, which is more than I thought it would be,” said Pavard. “I got a lot of good information and I’m gonna go do my own research.”
The list of universities present at the event can be found on SUU Career Center’s website and Instagram. Bobby Hodge encourages everyone to get in touch with the center and to not hesitate to ask questions.
