SUU starts game day with the annual Homecoming Parade

The annual Southern Utah University Homecoming Parade was held on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. Students and administrators walked and cheered their way down University Boulevard with parade floats and a variety of musical numbers to finish off homecoming week strong.

Following a traditional pancake breakfast, the parade brought school spirit to students, and even the whole town of Cedar City, as they looked forward to a long day of tailgates and football.

The parade showcased many groups and university clubs, including SUUSA and Student Involvement and Leadership. The dance and cheer teams were also paraded down University Boulevard, where they showed off their enthusiasm and their routines for the upcoming sporting events. Of course SUU’s beloved mascot, Thor, also participated in the parade.

Because the yearly homecoming game is a big event for Cedar City at large, the local high schools were also present in the parade. Canyon View and Cedar High’s dance teams and marching bands showed off their routines down the boulevard.

Will Zeller, Canyon View High School’s band director, has led his marching band in the parade for three years now.

“It is a fun place where the whole community comes together, and we get to show off our band programs,” said Zeller.

After a week full of homecoming events, the parade brought a final stretch of school spirit to those who watched. Students can refer to the SUU Events Calendar for updates on future campus events.
