Ryan Christiansen and Meb Anderson are awaiting approval by the Utah Senate to fill the seats and represent District 5 in Southern Utah.
District courts were established to keep domestic peace and provide for the equitable distribution of justice. District 5 was formed in 1896 and consists of Beaver County, Iron County and Washington County.
Gov. Cox expressed great trust in these individuals and said, “I am confident Utahns will benefit from their knowledge, experience and legal expertise.”
Anderson served as the education division director for the Utah Attorney General’s Office representing Southern Utah University. He has plans to obtain his master of public administration degree from SUU this fall.
“I am honored and humbled by the governor’s trust and confidence in selecting me for this nomination,” Anderson said. “If fortunate enough to be confirmed, I commit to serve the people of the state of Utah and the 5th District Court with attentiveness, integrity and adherence to the rule of law.”
Christiansen currently serves as an assistant attorney general with the Child and Family Support Division of the Utah Attorney General’s Office and has worked in the division for 16 years. He is also a former president of the Southern Utah Bar Association.
“I am incredibly honored and grateful to accept Gov. Cox’s nomination to serve as a District Court Judge in the 5th District. I have spent my entire legal career practicing in courtrooms throughout Southern Utah,” Christiansen said. “I am committed to maintaining fidelity to the Constitution and the laws as written, serving with integrity, and ensuring that the courtroom remains a place where all are treated with respect and dignity.”
The Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee plans to issue a recommendation to the full Senate after holding a public hearing. If confirmed by the Senate, Christiansen and Anderson will fill the vacancies left by the retirement of Judge Eric A. Ludlow on Oct. 1, 2024.
