Southern University Utah women’s soccer team faced off against the Eagles of Eastern Washington University on Thursday, Aug. 29th. The match resulted in a 1-1 draw, bringing the Thunderbirds’s record to 0-3-1 and Eastern Washington’s to 2-1-1. With the draw, SUU placed last in the Western Athletic Conference, and the Eagles placed second in the Big Sky Conference.
Eastern Washington took the lead in the 18th minute off the leg of Junior Chloe Pattison, her first goal of the season. Southern Utah finished the half with six shots and two saves despite trailing 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, both teams played great defense, with Eastern Washington holding their 1-0 lead for most of the game. However, the Thunderbirds broke through in the 80th minute. Whitney Gardner scored the goal with an assist from sophomore Steph Roper tying the game at one. This accounted for Gardner’s second goal and Roper’s second assist of the year. The contest ended in a 1-1 draw.

— Senior goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei had a season high of five saves.
— The Eagles backfield as a whole made it difficult for the Thunderbirds to find the net. The T-birds shot 11 times, but only three were on goal.
— Pattison had three of the Eagles six shots on goal.

Southern Utah will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 5th, at 4 p.m when they host Colorado College. The game can be attended at Thunderbird Soccer Field or streamed on ESPN+.
