The Southern Utah University track and field teams finished their first weekend of the 2024 outdoor season at the Utah Tech Invitational on March 22 and 23. The men took fourth place with 53 points, and the women took 28th with 1.28.
Men’s team
Jared Sharp placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with an impressive time of 54.76 seconds.
Hayden Harward took first place in the 1,500-meter, crossing the finish line in three minutes and 49.57 seconds. Travis Feeny was right behind him with a time of 3:50.71. The other top-10 finishers for SUU were Lance Larsen, who took sixth, and Clayton Adams, who took ninth, with times of 3:53.43 and 3:53.64, respectively.
Five Thunderbirds finished in the top 10 for the javelin throw. Bronis MacDougall led the charge for SUU with a 197 throw to earn fourth place. Carson Veazie provided a great throw of 172-2 for a sixth-place finish.
Women’s Team
Morgan Blackburn took first in the discus throw with a distance of 153-1. This set a new meet record for the Utah Tech Invitational.
The javelin event went well for the Thunderbirds with two members entering the top-10 throws in SUU history. Logan Laws placed herself in the second all-time spot with a throw of 152-2, while Jackalyn Hatch threw 140-6 to place herself ninth overall.
Next for SUU
The Thunderbirds will have a busy week ahead of them, as both teams will participate in the Texas Relays from March 27-30 as well as the Utah Valley University and Stanford Invitationals from March 29-30.
