Flippin’ Birds headed to Boise State Tri-Meet

The Southern Utah University gymnastics team will take on Boise State University and Sacramento State University in Boise on Friday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. The meet can be streamed through the Mountain West Network

Boise State
The Broncos sit at No. 33 nationally after a close defeat against SUU on Feb. 9.

Emily Lopez had an outstanding meet against the Flippin’ Birds last time out, scoring a meet-high 9.950 on the bars. She also added a 9.875 on the balance beam. Lopez has been a consistent force for the Broncos in her fourth year, and they will need her to keep it up for the team’s last five regular-season meets.

Fellow senior Courtney Blackson put up stellar numbers in her last meet, tallying a 9.950 on the vault, a 9.925 on the bars and a 9.875 on the floor.

Sacramento State
The Hornets enter the meet ranked No. 56 overall. In their last action, they took last at the Air Force Tri meet.

Sacramento State has two all-arounders ranked near the top 100. Redshirt junior Emma Morgenthaler ranks No. 109 nationally with an average score of 38.679, while Sarah Lutrel averages 38.713, good for No. 105.

Southern Utah
The Flippin’ Birds captured a big win over Boise State in their last matchup by a score of 196.275-196.150. They sit at No. 37 nationally with an average of 195.600.

Star freshman Niya Randolph has performed exceptionally for the Flippin’ Birds, most recently tallying a career high in the floor event at 9.900. Randolph also ranks No. 78 nationally for the all-around with an average score of 39.046.

Ellie Cacciola put up an impressive performance against BSU. She tallied a 9.875 on both the vault and balance beam as well as a 9.825 on the floor routine. The Flippin’ Birds will need another great performance from the junior to pick up the win.
