Flippin’ Birds prepare for home meet against the Broncos

The Southern Utah University gymnastics team will host Boise State University on Friday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. The meet can be streamed on Overnght.

Boise State
The Broncos entered the week ranked No. 32 in the nation with an average score of 195.371. They posted a season-high score of 196.525 on Friday, Feb. 2, against Iowa State University.

As a junior, BSU’s Courtney Blackson was named a first-team All-American for her performance at the national competition. She has made a tremendous impact in her senior campaign, including tying the program record on the floor with a 9.950. On top of that, Blackson also boasts a share of the school record in the vault with a perfect 10.000.

The Broncos have great production on the bars from Emily Lopez. She posted a team-wide season-high 9.950 in the event during a four-team home meet on Jan. 19. The senior has competed for four years in every Boise State meet with the program.

Southern Utah
After a slow start to the 2023-24 season, the Flippin’ Birds bounced back with a win and a season-high score of 196.800 against Utah State University. That raised their national ranking to No. 36, and they now enter the week with an average of 195.465.

SUU tallied another season-high on the beam at 49.375. Kennedi McClain and Ellie Cacciola each hit the second-best score in program history of 9.950 to give Southern Utah the boost it needed.

Flippin’ Bird superstar freshman Niya Randolph has continued to dominate the all-around. The Las Vegas native’s career-high score of 39.325 against the University of Iowa puts her at No. 67 in the nation. She followed up that performance by tallying a 39.275 against the Aggies.
