SUU Sports Weekend Recap 2/14-2/17

Did you miss any of the action from SUU’s busy weekend? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a recap of everything that happened around SUU athletics this weekend.

Lady T-Birds Fall at Home to Portland State

The SUU women’s basketball team lost 81-56 against the Portland State Vikings on Saturday afternoon in the America First Event Center.

After leading 24-18 at the end of the first quarter, PSU outscored the T-Birds 26-8 in the second period on their way to a 50-26 halftime lead.

SUU played better in the second half, winning the third quarter 16-15 and only being outscored by two in the fourth period. However, it was too little to late for the Lady T-Birds as they couldn’t come back from the early deficit.

Bre Reid and Jessica Chapman led SUU, scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.

Sidney Reilly led the Vikings with 22 points, shooting 9 for 11 from the field and 3 of 3 from downtown.

Three point shooting was key as PSU finished at 56 percent, going 9 for 16 while SUU only made 20 percent at 3 of 15.

With the loss, the Lady T-Birds fell to 6-18 overall and 3-12 in the Big Sky. They travel to Eastern Washington and Idaho for the weekend before returning home to face the Montana Grizzlies at 1pm on March 2.

Men’s Basketball Drops Pair of Road Games

Sacramento State (2/14/19)

The T-Birds fell 84-73 to the Hornets on Thursday evening. SUU’s Brandon Better, Andre Adams and Jacob Calloway all scored double digits with 19, 14 and 11 respectively.

Portland State (2/16/19)

SUU lost 78-69 against Portland State on Saturday night. The T-Birds’ Harrison Butler brought in a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. Andre Adams and Jacob Calloway followed with 14 and 12 points respectively.

The Thunderbirds (12-12, 7-8) return home to the America First Event Center on Thursday, Feb. 21 to host the Eastern Washington Eagles. The game will be streamed on Pluto TV channel 236.

Men’s Tennis Goes 2-1 in Greeley

GREELEY, Colo.– SUU earned a pair of 7-0 victories over Metro State on Friday and Colorado State Pueblo on Saturday. The T-Birds concluded the weekend in a hard fought 4-3 defeat at the hands of Northern Colorado. The Thunderbirds are now 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big Sky. The team returns home to face Seattle at 11 a.m. on Feb. 22.

Women’s Tennis Splits in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas– The SUU women’s tennis team fell 4-3 to Incarnate Word on Friday before bouncing back with a 4-3 win over Louisiana Tech on Saturday. The T-Birds (3-5) travel to Sacramento State on March 1 to open Big Sky play.
