Southern Utah University held their annual International Food Fair during homecoming week on Tuesday, Sept. 22 in the Sharwan Smith Student Center. The event was hosted by the International Student Ambassadors.
The food fair was centered around five different holidays that take place in the later months of the year, including Oktoberfest, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Diwali and Dia de los Muertos. Multiple tables were set up for students from the ISA to serve food items associated with each holiday.
Many different types of food were featured, such as jerk chicken from India, sweet potato casserole and brats with dijon mustard from Germany. Root beer and cream soda was featured at the Oktoberfest table as well.
The event had many students attend, with the line to the event extending out of the student center to the Gerald R. Sherratt Library. Some students reported standing in line for around 40 minutes to get into the event.
“This is our biggest event,” said Gabe Mendoza, Vice President of Events for the ISA. “We have been meeting together for the past three weeks to prepare all this. Honestly, it’s been a great turnout so far.”
The International Student Ambassadors participate and host many events at SUU. They provide plenty of services on top of cultural celebrations, such as Visa support, arrival services, international student orientation and airport shuttles. For more information on the ISA, click here.
