Financial February at SUU

The Southern Utah University Financial Wellness Center team kicked off Financial February with an event in the Sharwan Smith Student Center Living Room from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2. Students ate free pizza and learned about the ways the university can support their financial well-being.

Attendees were also entered into a raffle giveaway. Prizes included headphones, a blender and many other rewards .

Going to college is a major financial investment. The goal of Financial February is to raise students’ awareness of the resources provided by the Financial Wellness Center. Students can drop by the office to meet with counselors who will help them build a financial plan, deal with debt and apply for scholarships and financial aid.

“Financial February is an initiative [of] our Financial Wellness office,” said Ashleigh Zimmerman, the Financial Wellness team’s executive director of belonging and engagement. “Basically, we’re just trying to get students interested in money, learning how to manage their money properly and learning how to use their resources.”

Throughout the month, Financial Wellness will host a variety of events with different emphases, including credit card management and entrepreneurship.

“My favorite event is the Love and Money event, where we talk about finance and relationships and how do you manage all of those things when you’re a couple,” said Zimmerman. This event is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Feb. 14 and will take place in the Starlight Room.
