What does “play” look like in art? Southern Utah University students, faculty, staff and alumni can answer that question through an upcoming juried exhibition.

The SUU Honors Program and Gerald R. Sherratt Library are accepting submissions for “PLAY!,” an exhibition that explores how artists can incorporate the idea of play into their work. Artists can interpret the theme through the content, the creative process or the choice of materials.

The exhibition is associated with HONR 2010 – Interdisciplinary Topics, a course at SUU focused on the theme of “play” this semester.

Up to three pieces of artwork can be submitted. Submissions are considered in a variety of art forms, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, textile and digital art. Video submissions are also permitted, in which artists can provide a link to a website, YouTube post or digital portfolio.

The deadline to submit artwork is Sept. 24. Artists will be notified Oct. 1 if their work was selected for the exhibition.

“PLAY!” will be on display in the Gerald R. Sherratt Library’s 3rd Floor Gallery from Oct. 26 through Dec. 7, with an opening reception on Oct. 27.

For the remainder of the spring 2027 semester, three selected pieces will remain on display. The works will be recognized as the Juror’s Pick, Audience Favorite and Runner-up.

The exhibition will be judged by SUU Honors Program Director Katie Englert, SUU Staff Member Dorothy Portin, CPVA Honors Faculty Council Member Susanna Herrmann and SUU Library Director Phil Roché.

Those interested in submitting artwork can find the submission form here. For questions about the exhibition, contact Dorothy Portin at dorothyportin@suu.edu.
