SUU football prepares for a spring scrimmage today

Football fans will have something to look forward to before next season starts as the Southern Utah University football team competes in its annual spring scrimmage. The game will take place in the Eccles Coliseum on Saturday, April 18, with kickoff at 2 p.m.

The game will be an exhibition match consisting entirely of Thunderbird players. Fans will get the chance to see the current members of the team as they await transfers and new signings like incoming freshman quarterback Lee Norman-Lester, offensive lineman Gabe Ofisa, former Brigham Young University wide receiver LaMason Waller and more.

This game will mark a sendoff for stars Shane Carr and Joshua Dye, who will be transferring to the Universities of Kentucky and Mississippi respectively this fall after leading a dynamic offense last year. It’s also SUU’s last match as a member of the United Athletic Conference. The university will re-join the Big Sky Conference this summer, after having left in 2022.

Edge protector Elijah Ae, who signed with the T-Birds in December, will not be present at Saturday’s game. The sophomore is still in the hospital at the time of writing due to being in a car accident that same month.

Fans can purchase tickets at the Coliseum on Saturday. SUU’s first regular-season game will be on Aug. 29 in Missoula, Mont., as they take on the University of Montana. Their first home game will be the following week on Sept. 5 when they host Weber State University.
