The Redeemer: Music on the Life of Jesus Christ

The Department of Music at Southern Utah University performed The Redeemer: Music on the Life of Jesus Christ on April 6 and 7. The performance was carried out under the direction of Dr. Andrew Briggs and included the SUU Choirs and Symphony Orchestra.

The show was part of the 2026 spring tour for famous violinist Jenny Oaks Baker and was held at the Heritage Center Theatre in Cedar City.

The program took the audience on a journey through the life of Jesus the Christ, highlighting key moments of his life. Songs like “Woman at the Well: I Stand All Amazed” and “Crucifixion: Upon the Cross of Calvary” provided heartwarming melodies and crashing crescendos.

Briggs, Director of Choral Activities at Southern Utah University, spent a lot of time in preparation for this event. His hope was to provide a great experience for the music students who shared their talents in the performance.

“Collaboration is key for what we do as musicians,” said Briggs. I tell my students that they’re not going to get very far in this world if they’re by themselves.”

This collaboration led to a wonderful performance for both musicians and the audience.

“It was an amazing performance, and one that really helped me feel my Savior’s love,” said attendee Ellie Palmer. “I’m just so grateful for the chance to get to see something that beautiful.”

Jenny Oaks Baker will continue her tour of Southern Utah with “American Mosaic” at Tuacahn Amphitheatre on April 9. For more information about her upcoming performances, visit Baker’s Instagram.
