On Wednesday, April 2, the Thunderground Throwdown competition for solo artists was hosted by Thunder 91.1. Five contestants competed: Ernesto Caballero, Hayden Mortensen, Isaac Gordon, Jayson HaslanBrock and Emma Carr.
“I’ve always loved playing piano for as long as I can remember,” Gordon stated. “It is a way to feel something outside of a boring life. It makes me feel happy. I am honored to win.”
Gordon has been playing piano his whole life and has been singing for six years. To watch Gordon again, head to the music building this Saturday, April 4, to see him perform alongside his ensemble band, Commercial Breaks.
While the judges chose Isaac Gordon, the audience choice award went to Ernesto Caballero. Caballero performed his leading single My My (how you move) and other original songs, which are available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.
Student Tanner Corbridge was in the audience and emphasized the talent of all of the artists.
The Thunderground Throwdown highlighted the creativity and dedication of student musicians, giving performers a platform to share their original work and connect with a live audience. Events like this continue to showcase the growing music community and provide opportunities for emerging artists to gain experience and recognition.
