SUU hosts “macbitches” and “Every Brilliant Thing” this week

Southern Utah University is bringing two productions to campus this week, taking on personal, character-driven themes and stories.

Second Studio will present “macbitches” by Sophie McIntosh from April 2-4 at 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on April 4 in the Auditorium Studio Theatre. The story follows Hailey, a freshman acting major who lands the role of Lady Macbeth. What begins as a “celebration” with her upperclassmen rivals quickly shifts as the night progresses. Their ambitions and the pressures of their education surface, leading to conflict and unexpected betrayal. Tickets are $5 and available at the door or online.

Additionally, the SUU Health and Wellness Center will wrap up its Suicide Prevention and Awareness Week with a showing of “Every Brilliant Thing” by Duncan Macmillan and Johnny Donahoe. The production encourages audiences to consider the beauty of life and the importance of actively discussing mental health openly. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. in the R. Haze Hunter Alumni Center Great Hall. Admission is free for SUU students, staff and faculty. “Every Brilliant Thing” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Dramatists Play Service.

Both productions allow students to experience emotional and reflective narration through live performance.
