Casino Night takes SUU students on a “race around the world”

The Student Programming Board’s annual Casino Night returned to Southern Utah University on Saturday, March 28, from 8 p.m. to midnight. With a “Race Around the World” theme, the event brought students together in the Sharwan Smith Student Center for an evening of entertainment.

Upon arrival, attendees received wristbands and poker chips, which they could use to play games of their choice throughout the evening. Chips were put into a raffle at the end of the night to win various prizes.

In the ballroom, students gathered around tables for blackjack, and other rooms hosted stations for craps or poker. Beyond the casino floor, additional activities were spread throughout the center. The Sterling R. Church Auditorium provided bingo, while students posed for photos at themed photobooths in the Starlight Room. Alongside the entertainment, refreshments were available in The Wing.

While the classic casino activities are the main games that draw students in, inclusivity was an important part of the night, offering a range of options for all attendees. These additional opportunities included Mario Kart in the Living Room, UNO in the Mall Hallway and karaoke in the Theater Room.

“We have a lot of diverse activities,” said SPB director Kylee Sutherland. “We want every student to feel included, and we value their input.”

Casino Night’s motivation is to bring attendees together and let loose, especially at this point in the semester.

“Since Casino Night is at the end of the year, it can help students relieve stress,” Sutherland said. “The goal is to make students feel welcomed and have a good time.”

Additionally, Casino Night is the most popular spring event on campus, drawing in many students who come to enjoy the various games, prizes, and a social atmosphere.

“It’s a fun excuse to get dressed up,” said SUU student Sam Erickson. “The best part is having a good time with good people.”

The Student Programming Board continues to host events throughout the academic year, offering students opportunities for entertainment and engagement on campus. Students interested in learning more about SPB events or getting involved can visit the Student Involvement and Leadership Office, in ST 177.
