Thunder 91 partners with SUU News for Sips n’ Spins

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, Southern Utah University’s radio station, Thunder 91, hosted its semi-annual event Sips n’ Spins in the Sharwan Smith Student Center Living Room.

For the third edition of the event, the radio station partnered with SUU News, adding to the publicity.

“(It is) a good place to come chill with friends,” said Mary Caldwell, an attendee at the event.

Sips n’ Spins is meant for people to hang out, relax and make some art.

“The event is a much-needed artistic expression that we don’t get enough of,” said event attendee Kieran Shoemaker.

This activity was free of charge for all students. Participants could paint vinyl records and old university journals, while enjoying some dirty sodas and snacks.

“It felt thrifty, where you can throw some stuff together,” added C.J. Rodriguez.

Overall, the event was greatly appreciated, especially by the student body, but also faculties.

“I would totally have made it a date night out of something like that when I was a student,” said Radio Director Ryan Steineckert.

Amanda Flowers, one of the radio station hosts, was happily surprised by the amount of people in attendance.

“We were expecting the table to be filled, but they were overfilled,” said Flowers. “We need to have more food and drinks with more tables.”

Brynn Smith, from the radio station too, talked about the preparation that has been put into the event. She explained how they put flyers on the digital signage and how there was a lot more exposure on the event through SUU news. This allowed the radio station to reach their goals and even better.

“(The event happens once a semester, but) we would love to host more opportunities,” shared Smith. “We would love to do it more often and with more adjacent events.”

Thunder 91 and SUU News loved this event just as much as the students and are eager to interact more with the student body.
