Women’s basketball looks to get back at Tarleton

After losing the first two matchups of the year in heartbreakers, the Southern Utah University women’s basketball team will host Tarleton State University in the America First Event Center on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m.

This game will be streamed live on ESPN+.

SUU sits at a record of 17-8. They’ve won six of their last seven games, with the one loss coming in a 59-57 matchup against Tarleton. They also have a 9-4 conference record.

This will be SUU’s second-to-last home game this season. They’ve only had one loss in 12 home games, falling at the hands of Western Athletic Conference’s No. 1, California Baptist University. The T-Birds lost that game 82-77.

SUU will look to strike back against a team that’s gotten two tough wins against them this year. They’ll look to Brooklyn Fely, who recently won her fourth WAC Newcomer of the Week Award, to take charge against the resilient Texans team.

Southern Utah holds a 2-7 all-time record against Tarleton State. The last time SUU was victorious against TSU was almost three years ago.

The Texans hold a 12-12 record. They’ve gone 2-4 in their last six games, but all of the losses have been by 10 points or fewer. They carry a 6-7 conference record.

Like most teams, TSU hasn’t done well on the road. They’ve played 10 true away games and have only won three. Their victory against Utah Tech University, who are at the bottom of the conference, was their only WAC road win.

In the T-Birds’ and Texans’ last matchup, both teams fell victim to streakiness and poor shot selection. There was also a large emphasis on defense and fouls. The Thunderbirds are in for an aggressive game as they make the push for a placement in the WAC Tournament next month.
