The Southern Utah Museum of Art has three new exhibitions to debut this weekend on Friday, Jan. 17.
“The Flowering Line: Psychedelia and the Art Nouveau Revival” exhibit will showcase a variety of pieces inspired by psychedelia and the music scene of the 1960s. The pieces seek to depict Art Nouveau or New Art, a style popular in the 1880s that experienced a revival in the 1960s. This style was characterized by flowing lines and curves reflected in the exhibit’s title.
The “Mass Produced: The Advent of Affordable Art” exhibition pays tribute to the Associated American Artists, an organization founded in 1934 that focused on producing affordable art prints for the masses. The work of six prominent artists from this time period will be showcased in the exhibit.
“Mass Produced: The Advent of Affordable Art” will be on display until March 7.
The final exhibition is entitled “You’re the Best!” This project by artist Bianca Velasquez consists of hundreds of trophy parts that have been reused and repurposed in order to provide them with new meaning. The trophies were collected from a now-closed shop in Salt Lake City, and the artists hope that their repurposing will provide attendees with gratitude for the experiences they have had in their lives.
“You’re the Best!” will also run until March 7.
