Slay the stress with Sleigh the Finals event

On Dec. 4, from 9 to 11 a.m., the Southern Utah University Student Programming Board organized the event “Sleight the Finals” and invited all students to come eat and de-stress for finals week.

Carried away by Christmas music, students engaged in crafts while enjoying donuts and hot chocolate. They made candy sleighs and colored ornaments. Between snowflakes, gingerbread, reindeer and more, participants were able to give free rein to their creativity.

“We wanted to do a final event because we know that everybody is really stressed, so we thought it would be fun word play — Sleight the Finals — because obviously you want to slay your final,” said SPB Director Ella Hansen. “Another thing, food is something that a lot of students want during finals week, so donuts, juice, and hot chocolate are definitely a thing, and then we added some good old crafts just to take the stress off and to make their apartment more festive.”

Prizes table

To celebrate the approaching holidays, students could also enter their names in a raffle to win a variety of prizes, including a Roku TV, Minky blankets, finals week gift baskets, giant candy bars, as well as a crockpot and a hot chocolate kit.

Alexa Megia and Regina Minjares attended the event by chance, but really enjoyed it and would like to see more events like this.

“I love eating, so whenever I want to ta ke my mind off finals,
I need to try to weigh up this stress,” said Megia. “It’s just a way to get rid of anxiety, get rid of the pressure and everything. So I really love social events. Please guys, keep doing it!”

Although this was SPB’s last event of the Fall semester, there are still plenty of activities to enjoy before winter break. Tonight, the SUU Student Alumni Association is hosting the traditional Holiday Lights and Cocoa event from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. This will be followed by a screening of the play A Charlie Brown Christmas at 8 p.m.
