Volleyball ready for round two against California Baptist University

After winning against California Baptist University on Oct. 4, the Southern Utah University women’s volleyball team will fight to defeat the Lancers again on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. 

The game will be played in the Van Dyne Gym in Riverside, California and can be streamed live on ESPN+.

Southern Utah

Southern Utah has struggled this season with a record of 2-18 and a 1-8 in the Western Athletic Conference. The team has lost six games in a row, with the most recent win being against California Baptist. 

On offense, the Thunderbirds have managed 781 kills on 2,471 attack attempts this season with a .121 hitting average. This average ranks last in the WAC and they rank last in opposing hitting percentage giving up a .246 hitting percentage.

Victoria Zibecchi leads the charge with 175 kills. She is followed by Kaitlyn Hoelker with 137 kills and Kaitlyn Aleshire with 116 kills. 

Defensively, SUU has recorded 862 digs and 50 solo blocks this season. Aleeya Jones stands strong with 179 digs, followed by Asya Akbulut with 125 digs.

California Baptist

After facing a challenging season so far, the California Baptist Lancers hold a record of 6‑15 overall and 2‑7 in the WAC.

Offensively, California Baptist has produced a strong attack effort with 883 kills on 2,534 total attack attempts, yielding an approximate hitting percentage of .16. Leading the charge is Emery DeJong with 266 kills, followed by Eliana Posada with 142 kills.

On the other side, California Baptist has recorded 945 digs and 60 solo blocks. Gianna Perez holds the highest number of digs at 181, followed by DeJong with 164 digs.
