Southern Utah University students dressed up in their scariest costumes to celebrate the “Scream: The Final Slash” on Oct. 25. The party started at 9 p.m. with an estimate of over 3,000 attendees. Students came dressed up in all kinds of costumes, from Freddy Krueger to old grandmas and were ready to party.
The Scream is SUU’s annual Halloween party hosted by the Student Programming Board. The event starts in the America First Event Center and continues through the Sharwan Smith Student Center. This year it was expanded into the Multipurpose Building for a haunted house.
“I really enjoyed the environment that they created for the haunted house,” said Rory Quill, an attendee at the event. “I liked the variety of jumpscares, that made it hard to guess when the next jump was going to be.
The event also featured a DJ in the AFEC’s basketball court, escape rooms, a magician and a “Kill Count Carnival” where each game was themed after a classic horror villain.
“The ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ booth was super fun to play,” stated Quill. “I think it was a good mix between a traditional carnival game and a scary movie. I also liked how unserious the booths were, it was just a good time.”
The Scream is one of the most anticipated events of the year, and the party was a night to remember for many students.
“The Scream is my favorite event throughout the entire year,” added Quill. “This one in particular really honed in on what the event was supposed to be. It wasn’t just ‘a party,’ it was a themed experience that really carried the story throughout each section of the event.”
