Weather warning: Oct. 15

This last weekend, Southern Utah received a significant amount of rainfall, with a total of almost 1.5 inches. While the remainder of the week expects sunny conditions, the rain is not over yet.

There is a forecasted 100% chance of rainfall for most of the day today, Wednesday, Oct. 15. This constant rainfall can create havoc on the roads and other aspects.

Avoid driving or walking through floodwaters. Hydroplaning is common in this weather, and it is important that you do not drive on bad tires or with bad brakes.

Experts also recommend driving with your low beams on in heavy rainstorms to increase visibility for yourself and others. This is especially important in dark-colored vehicles. To avoid sliding into traffic, distance yourself from other vehicles more than you normally would.

During the last heavy rainfall, many Cedar City residents and SUU students experienced flooding in their houses and apartments. If flooding occurs, it is recommended to take photos and videos of the damage and immediately contact your insurance or landlord.

The Department of Homeland Security advises to “pay attention to authorities and weather forecasts for information on whether it is safe to go outside and instructions regarding potential flash flooding.”
