Thin Line Comedy has just announced its new cast for the fall 2025 semester.
The improv club held auditions on Sept. 11 and added 20 new members to its team.
Musser admitted that when he joined the club, he was one of the shy, awkward actors but has since grown in his abilities. He became president of the club and is now a mentor to others looking to improve their skills and confidence.
“We have people who join super in their shell, super shy, (who) suddenly become the most out there person, making the funniest jokes” said Musser. “The most rewarding thing is just watching people grow.”
Piere Scattolon, a returning cast member who joined the team in 2023, has since been able to reconnect with their younger self.
“(Improv) allows me to play pretend, something very sentimental that we stop doing in our childhood and being able to reconnect with that when you’re older rekindles your youthful passions,” said Scattolon.
Improv theater is unlike any other form of theater because the performers aren’t given a script. They must come up with their dialogue in real time while attempting to make it funny.
“Improv is basically jazz, but acting. We have a general idea of what we’re doing, but we don’t know where it’s going to go until we go there. It’s cool to see what stories and what relationships are built,” said Sánchez.
“Having the ability to just figure stuff out on the fly is a very valuable skill and it’s one that you can carry along with whatever you do in your life,” they said.
Thin Line Comedy performs on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Sterling Auditorium in the rotunda. All are welcome to attend their shows free of charge.
