Satellite Salon Series featuring Natalie Cressman and Ian Faquini

The Satellite Salon Series at SUU brought a special performance on Saturday night with Natalie Cressman and Ian Faquini.

Cressman is known for her “limitless enthusiasm and a knack for creating a sound that is entirely her own,” and Faquini, is praised by the Seattle Times as “an uncannily masterful composer.”

The audience was a mix of Cedar City locals and SUU music students, which made the event feel like a true community gathering.

The duo performed original songs, covers and their collaborations. Cressman and Faquini told the story behind each piece before performing it and hearing the background gave the music a deeper meaning. Instead of just listening, the crowd was pulled into the emotions and imagery that inspired the songs.

Cressman’s trombone and vocals brought warmth and depth, while Faquini’s guitar layered rich Brazilian rhythms that carried the room away. Their chemistry as a duo made it easy to get lost in the flow of the music.

The Satellite Salon Series stands out due to its unique combination of education and performance.

Earlier in the evening, they held a Q&A where students could ask questions about their creative process and influences.

The event showed how music can bridge cultures and communities with students, professors and locals all sharing the experience.
