SUU Paint Dance : A colorful conclusion to Welcome Week

To wrap up Southern Utah University’s Welcome Week, the Student Programming Board hosted its annual Paint Dance on Saturday, Aug. 30. The event, which has become a rite of passage for SUU students, ran from 9:30 p.m. to midnight and transformed Parking Lot 11 into a living canvas.

“It was a very fun experience. I feel like I haven’t seen a lot of colleges do this type of dance, so I would definitely recommend it for freshmen,” said Valerie Frias, junior at SUU.

Participants were encouraged to wear white clothing, which quickly turned into colorful souvenirs. From yellow to blue, red and beyond, SPB staff sprayed the crowd with streams of paints. Students left the event with personalized tie-dye creations to take home.

Pure energy as student participate in dance battle

“[My favorite moment was] probably being shot in the face with the paint.” said AJ Claice, freshman at SUU. “I liked it, jumping with the paint in your face was really cool.”

The evening featured a mix of popular music, including Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO with Lauren Bennett and GoonRock, Y.M.C.A. by the Village People and Party in the U.S.A. by Miley Cyrus. Throughout the night, dance battles emerged, encouraging students to connect through music, dance moves and laughter.

“I only participated in the paint dance and it felt great. It was lots of energy,” added Claice. “I want to do it again.”

With another successful dance, SUU’s Student Programming Board does not intend to stop there. According to the DJ themself, no one will want to miss the next campus traditions such as Forever Red and The Scream. Free for students, everyone is welcome and all T-Birds are encouraged to join in these events.
