Southern Utah University’s Michael O. Leavitt Center for Politics and Public Service is bringing back its charity thrift store for a second time this school year on Friday, April 4, from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. This one-day event invites students to come find the missing pieces to their wardrobe while supporting a meaningful cause.
The pop-up thrift store will be entirely stocked by student donations. From March 31 to April 3, students will be able to drop off clothing items and enter a raffle for a chance to win prizes, including SUU swag, gift cards and more.
“I’m excited because a lot of people showed up for the last one, so I hope that they show up to this one,” said Leavitt Center Director’s Assistant Kylei Lueck. “People get to be a part of something cool and then they know that they made a difference in doing something.”
All funds from the event will be donated to Iron County Care and Share Shelter. This private, non-profit organization is committed to providing essential support and resources to individuals and families in need, assisting homeless men, women and children.
“Not only do students get to thrift second hand clothes or find some stuff that they like, but they get to be a part of something that’s donating to a good cause and helping their community,” added Lueck. “It gives people the chance to be a part of something directly and indirectly at the same time.”
Alongside the Leavitt Center’s other events such as their weekly Pizza and Politics and Legislative Review, the charity thrift store aims to raise awareness and bring a deeper understanding to social issues. Through the student-run organization, students have access to a hub of leadership training, citizenship education, humanitarian service and public policy research.
