Thunderbirds prepare to host Seattle U for senior night

Looking to end the regular season on a high note, the Southern Utah University men’s basketball team is hosting Seattle University for the second time on Thursday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the America First Event Center for senior night.

The game will also be available to stream on ESPN+.

Southern Utah
The Thunderbirds are currently 12-17 in overall play and ranked eighth in the Western Athletic Conference with a 4-11 record. Southern Utah will host Seattle U this week and face Utah Tech University again on Mar. 11 in the opening round of the WAC tournament.

This will be senior night for the Thunderbirds, meaning it’s one of the last times we will see key players on the court. Southern Utah played Seattle Utah earlier in the season, where they fell to the Redhawks 75-52.

The Thunderbirds are thankfully still injury-free which will allow everyone to get some time on the court. After a tough game against Utah Valley University last week, the Thunderbirds are going to need to focus on their offense so they can take good shots against this impressive Seattle defense.

“We are going to have to regroup and find a way to finish the regular season on a positive note next week,” said Head Coach Rob Jeter.

Brock Felder had 11 points against Utah Valley last week, along with an impressive team-high seven rebounds. Jefferey Langston Jr added 10 points and five rebounds. These players will put up a tough fight against Seattle and fight for the last win of the regular season.

Seattle U
The Redhawks are currently 11-17 in overall play and 6-8 in conference play. They currently hold the number six seed in the WAC. Seattle will also play Utah Tech on Saturday, Mar. 8, before heading to Vegas to compete in the WAC tournament starting March 12.

Seattle is coming off of a tough loss against Grand Canyon University, where the Redhawks weren’t able to hold off the Antelopes’ quick offense, falling short 63-60.

The Thunderbirds will need to watch out for Paris Dawson and Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe. Both players put up 16 points against Grand Canyon and will be an integral part of their offense this week.

Seattle had 16 turnovers in the game against Grand Canyon, and the Thunderbirds will need to use that to their advantage in order to put up as many points as possible.

Southern Utah is 1-5 all-time against Seattle U ahead of the game this week.
