Season-high score lifts Southern Utah over UC Davis

In a rematch of their match on Jan. 31, the Southern Utah University women’s gymnastics team traveled to face the University of California, Davis on Sunday, Mar. 2. 

Southern Utah played well, executing a season-high score, edging out the Aggies 196.650-196.300. 

With the win, SUU improves to 11-4 on the season and 4-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. UC Davis falls to 8-7 on the year. 

Bars
Southern Utah started the meet off on the bars. Niya Randolph continued her dominant play with a 9.925, followed by Maria Ferguson with a 9.900. 

Milla Gideon led the Aggies with a 9.850, but SUU took the rotation 49.275-49.050. 

Vault
Ellie Cacciola helped continue SUU’s strong run with a 9.900. Randolph finished second for the Flippin’ Birds with a 9.825 as Southern Utah produced a 49.125.

Keanna Abraham led the way for UC Davis with a 9.825, but the rest of the team struggled, only scoring a 48.850.

Floor
Despite Southern Utah throwing out a 49.250, UC Davis bested the Flippin’ Birds on the floor routine with a 49.325. 

Abraham led all gymnasts with a 9.900, while Randolph and Taylor Gull finished with a 9.875. 

Beam
Looking to close the meet out, SUU finished on the beam. Cacciola led the way with a 9.850. 

UC Davis tried making a comeback, but it wasn’t enough as SUU came out on top 196.650-196.300.

Randolph finished first in the all-around with a 39.450, followed by Mia Hampton with a 39.250.

What’s next?
Southern Utah is back home for senior night when they host Boise State University on Friday, Mar. 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the America First Event Center.
