Utah Wildlife Federation announces new board chair

The Utah Wildlife Federation board of directors recently announced they have a new board chair. Wildlife and conservation photographer Shauna Hart has now been elected to this role.

UWF consists of hunters, anglers, outdoor enthusiasts, and wildlife advocates who share a passion for sustainably protecting Utah’s natural resources. It promotes the responsible management and sustainable use of Utah’s land while advocating for policies that safeguard Utah’s wildlife and outdoor recreation opportunities.

The organization works to secure a promising future for Utah’s land, water and wildlife by collaborating with citizens and policymakers both within the state and nationally. It also partners with a wide range of organizations, from local conservation groups to national advocacy organizations, to achieve these shared objectives.

Hart lives in Logan, Utah, and has spent her life photographing the wildlife and ecosystems in Utah and the intermountain west.  UWF anticipates that her extensive experience in business and conservation will help inform the important work she does for this organization. Her education includes a BA in Communications and a Masters Degree in Business Administration, and she has managed teams in various industries, including healthcare, outdoor equipment for Eddie Bauer and customer service with CampSaver.

Hart has also worked with biologists from the Division of Wildlife Resources studying and tracking wildlife behavior, and these experiences have increased her understanding of the importance of maintaining and improving the health, numbers, and balance of the varied species she photographs. She is a contributing photographer to several conservation groups and volunteers in community science projects.

According to UWF’s recent press release, Hart is replacing the former board chair, Brett Prettyman, who recently stepped down after serving in this role for four years.

Under Prettyman’s leadership, the organization grew significantly. Prettyman created and fostered many relationships with government agencies and non-government organizations in the interest of wildlife and environmental conservation, increasing UWF’s visibility and role as an advocate for wildlife in Utah.

The press release stated that the board also appreciated and thanked Charlie Luke, who stepped down as the board’s vice chair. “Charlie brought a unique skill set to UWF,” the release said. “His lead out in committee work and input on internal policy development will be sorely missed.”
