U.S. Bureau of Land Management officials in Cedar City are looking for public feedback on restoring the Indian Peak Range watershed.
The area includes approximately 550,000 acres between Iron and Beaver Counties, including the Hamlin Valley, Pine Valley, and the Needles Range.
The BLM website says the plan is to enhance the landscape through vegetation treatments. Their goals include reducing the infilling of pinyon pine and juniper into sagebrush systems, reducing annual grasses and other monocultures, reintroducing fire and disturbance, and improving natural plant health by reducing competition.
The public is invited to provide feedback about the proposal. It opened on Feb. 3 and will remain open until March 5.Comments may be submitted online by clicking the “Participate Now” button on the tab on the left side of the informational page, including maps and additional information.
“All substantive and timely comments received during this period will be used to develop an Environmental Assessment (EA),” the page states.
Further information may also be obtained by contacting a fuels planning and environmental specialist at 435-865-3000.
