Holiday activities to enjoy around Cedar City

Winter at SUU

The 2024 holiday season is here, and there are so many ways for Southern Utah University students and community members to celebrate around Cedar City throughout the month of December.

Take a drive down “Christmas Lane”

On the north end of Cedar, just behind the Cedar Ridge golf course, a neighborhood of homes, also known as “Christmas Lane,” decks its halls with holiday lights and decorations. Each house has a sign in its front yard that tells part of a Christmas story. Drivers can follow the signs throughout the neighborhood to read the story while admiring the festive decor. The lane has a Facebook page containing updates on the annual display.

Attend the 10th annual Spirit of Christmas Festival

For a decade now, the Stratum Real Estate group has put on a Spirit of Christmas Festival for Cedar City residents. This year’s will be Saturday, Dec. 14, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Stratum Real Estate building. There will be hot cocoa, holiday snacks and crafts, face painting, and photos with Santa. Information about the event is listed on their Facebook page.

Go ice skating in Enoch

This year, Enoch welcomed a brand new ice skating rink to the community. Just a short drive from Cedar, KJ’s Ice Barn is not only home to Iron County’s hockey team, the Yetis, but is also open for public skating and drop-in hockey games. If you’re looking to celebrate the winter season on the ice, this is the place to go.

Check out a holiday performance

With finals week approaching, SUU’s performing arts programs are holding their fall semester showcases. Considering the time of year, many of these shows have taken on seasonal themes. Go watch the SUU Ballroom Dance Company’s Dancing through the Snow performance on Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday Dec. 7. Also on Friday, the combined Choirs, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble are joining together for their Angels on High holiday concert.

Popular musical trio GENTRI is coming to the America First Event Center on Thursday, Dec. 12, just in time for the end of finals week. That same day marks the beginning of the third annual Cedar City Community Nutcracker, held at Canyon View High School from Thursday to Saturday, Dec. 14.

And much more…

Keep an eye on SUU’s event calendar as well as the Cedar City events webpage and Instagram for more activities to participate in on campus and around the community this holiday season.
