Volleyball heads to Texas to face Tarleton State; Abilene Christian

Southern Utah University women’s volleyball team will travel to Texas to challenge Tarleton State University on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m., followed by a match against Abilene Christian University on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m.

This game can be streamed on ESPN+.

Southern Utah
SUU swept both Tarleton State and Abilene Christian in their last matchups in Cedar City. The Thunderbirds are 9-17 on the year, are in fifth place in the Western Athletic Conference and are in search of a top-four finish heading into the tournament.

Southern Utah’s win against Seattle snapped a six-game losing streak for the team. They will build that momentum as they look to get back on track on Thursday.

Outside hitter Andrea Spasojevic has been on a tear this season, leading the team in aces and kills as well as being top five in assists, digs and blocks. She is currently tied for tenth all-time in service aces in a season with 25.

Tarleton State
It is not the ideal season for the Texans, however there is still hope for the team to make a late push. While they haven’t performed very well in conference play, they are still only five games out from a top-four finish. With four games left in the season, there is still hope.

This team utilizes each players different strengths well. Each of the five major statistical categories is led by a different player, demonstrating their versatility.

Allison Bryant leads the team in kills with 365.

Abilene Christian
Abilene Christian is 8-15 on the year and 3-9 in the WAC. After winning three straight games in the conference, ACU has lost their last seven contests. During this seven-game losing streak, Abilene Christian has been swept in five of them.

Although the team has struggled, Bryley Steinhilber leads the team with 243 kills and 22 service aces. Defensively, Hannah Gonzalez leads the team with 63 blocks, with Avery Thaler in second with 36.

Southern Utah is 2-1 all-time against Tarleton State and 2-1 all-time against Abilene Christian.
