Volleyball travels to play California Baptist; Grand Canyon

Southern Utah University’s women’s volleyball team will continue their four-game road trip, traveling to both California Baptist University on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 8 p.m., and Grand Canyon University on Saturday, Oct. 26., at 2 p.m. These games can be streamed on ESPN+.

Southern Utah
SUU lost its previous matchup against rival Utah Tech this past Monday, which gives them a current three-game losing streak. The Thunderbirds are 8-11 on the year and 4-4 in the Western Athletic Conference. 

SUU is looking to regain some confidence in their next matchups, having played both teams extremely well previously. Andrea Spasojevic has been one of the leaders for the Thunderbirds. Spasojevic leads the team with 197 kills and 24 service aces.

Southern Utah defeated California Baptist 3-0 but fell to Grand Canyon 3-2.

California Baptist
California Baptist has underperformed all season. The Lancers are just 1-19 on the season and 1-7 in conference play, their lone win coming against Utah Valley University. 

Mia Jerue leads the team with 32 aces but also has 42 service errors. Defensively, the Lancers have lacked an ability to block kill shots. Madison Gilliland leads the team in blocks with 58. 

Grand Canyon University
The Lopes enter this week 13-7 on the year and 6-2 in conference play. GCU is ranked second in the WAC behind the University of Texas at Arlington. Grand Canyon is 6-2 in their last eight games.

Tatum Parrott has been dominant all-year long. The junior from Phoenix, Arizona has 247 kills on the year and 4.12 per set. Trista Strasser continues to hold things down on the defensive side. The senior out of Kyle, Texas has 100 blocks on the season.
