New initiative guarantees students college acceptance in Utah

The Utah System of Higher Education has launched Admit Utah, an initiative guaranteeing Utah students admittance to college. Southern Utah University is one of Utah’s 16 higher education institutions included in the state initiative. Every Utah high school student is guaranteed admission to at least one of these schools in Utah regardless of GPA.

Each institution has its own GPA admission requirement. AdmitUtah.org prompts students to enter their GPA and then directs them to the USHE institutions where they are guaranteed admission.

According to SUU’s first-year student admission page, “First-time freshmen with a cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.7 or higher will be fully admitted.” Students with a GPA between 2.3 and 2.69 are provisionally admitted to SUU and the Comprehensive Academic Support and Success program.

This initiative is designed to make the admission process easier, provide resources for undecided students and integrate college preparation within K-12 schools. Parents, students and teachers can access these resources, making the overall admission process more accessible.

Roy High School graduates prepare for the college experience.

Students who are unsure about their future career path can explore college and financial aid options to choose which institution best suits their needs.

“We firmly believe that every Utah student deserves the opportunity to succeed in college and we are confident that ‘Admit Utah’ will be instrumental in making that a reality,” shared Higher Education Commissioner Geoffrey Landward.

This program will allow higher education institutions to be more involved in the admission process within K-12 schools by providing real-time assistance to students.

With the help of this initiative, college acceptance will increase across the state. More information regarding Admit Utah and higher education institutions across the state can be found here
