Southern Utah hosts first hockey game in four years

KJ’s Ice Barn has officially opened in Enoch Utah, just 15 minutes away from the heart of Cedar City. KJ’s is Southern Utah’s first ice rink and hockey facility in over four years and provides open public skating daily

KJ’s provides a rink for nearby teams to practice and play. They have a large seating area and affordable tickets for residents to watch the hockey games. While KJ’s is a place for all players and skaters in the area, they are home to Southern Utah’s junior hockey team, the Southern Utah Yeti. The yeti was also adopted as the ice barn’s mascot and logo.

“This team has been waiting for years for a new rink, and now they finally got what they deserve,” shared hockey alumni, Grayson Breinholt.

Breinholt has been following the construction progress for the past two years and has seen the team’s passion firsthand.

Games have already begun at KJ’s, with the first game of the season being held last Friday, Sept. 27. Residents of Cedar City and even St. George traveled to witness the first hockey game. The varsity team had a memorable home win that night, with the score being 9-4 against Tooele.

The celebration will continue at the Ice Barn this weekend. Their official grand opening will be held Friday, Oct. 4, where the Iron County Yeti will compete against Bremerton. With local vendors and swing dancing from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., local SUU musician Grace Parke will also provide live music. .

KJ’s Ice Barn is a significant change for Southern Utah and means a great deal to the local teams. More information about tickets and student discounts can be found online at kjsicebarn.org.
