The Utah Shakespeare Festival: What’s it All About?

There’s always chatter about the Utah Shakespeare Festival, and it’s no secret that this festival is a huge part of Cedar City, but what’s all the talk about? Whether an incoming freshman or a junior that’s just never heard about it, this may be the question running through all our minds. 

According to their mission statement: “The Utah Shakespeare Festival is a destination theater that presents life-affirming classical and contemporary plays and musicals in rotating repertory, and interactive experiences. All of our work is intended to entertain, educate, and enrich regional and national audiences.”

Whether new to theater or a die-hard fan, the Utah Shakespeare Festival does just that. So use this vibrant festival to your advantage. This could be just the opportunity for a date night, a fun activity for you and your roommates, or something to catch a break from all the stress of being a college student.

The Shakespeare plays this fall include “Macbeth,” “Hamlet,” “The Conclusion of Henry VI: Parts Two and Three,” and “Twelfth Night.” Not a Shakespeare fan? No worries, the festival offers other plays such as, “The Book of Will,” “Every Brilliant Thing, and “The Price” this fall season. 

Tickets usually range from $30-$50 a seat, but as students at SUU, the student access pass is available for only $40. Bring your student ID to the Festival ticket office to purchase your season pass.
