The SUU Filmmaking program is in need of talented, local actors

The Southern Utah University Filmmaking program is holding a casting call on Friday, Feb 7 from 2-5 p.m. Auditions will be scheduled in five minute time slots, each taking place in Bristlecone Hall room 128. The students in the filmmaking program are searching for talented, local actors for their Spring films.

On Friday, actors will need to be prepared to recite an excerpt from one of the films, demonstrating the character and their acting skills. Following auditions may be callbacks for certain participants, with cast lists being released shortly after. Audition excerpts can be found here.

This season will consist of multiple short films, all written and directed by SUU film students. Many of these films will be used for projects in these student’s classes, but some will be professionally produced and broadcast.

These films allow the students in the film program to produce what they have been working on and they are a great acting opportunity for anyone who participates. Screen acting can be a good way to gain experience and looks great on a resume.

“This is a great resource right on campus for those who want to do screen acting,” said Orlando Grayson, student office assistant for the film program.

As well as acting opportunities, this casting call gives film students the chance to experience writing and directing in the field of filmmaking.

“It’s great that we kind of throw them in head first when it comes to directing actors. It’s right then and there in the moment,” Brayson added.

Audition time slots are filling quickly. To sign up for a time, fill out the Spring Casting Call form. More information on student films and the SUU Filmmaking program can be found on the Department of Filmmaking, Art, and Design website.
